Question: I have been diagnosed with COPD, but the type is uncertain. I have had pneumonia twice in my life, but chronic (late winter) bronchitis for several years. How do I tell the difference between emphysema and bronchitis? Thank you. YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
PFT needs to be done

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic.

The type of COPD can be distinguished through a lung (pulmonary) function test. Pulmonary function tests measure the amount of air you can inhale and exhale, and if your lungs are delivering enough oxygen to your blood.

Let me know if I could help further.
