Suggest Treatment For Chronic Endometritis

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Nov 2014
Question: Being treated with antibiotics 11 weeks pp for what appears to be chronic endometritis from retained products of conception that have since passed. Nervous that I could still have an infection this long after birth (was not dx with infection before, just had pain and prolonged bleeding until 2cm placenta passed at 4 weeks pp, only slight cramping now at 11 wks pp). Having a saline ultrasound next week, should they be doing something sooner?

Brief Answer:
Saline ultrasound is useful. Culture test needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

According to information and clinical presentation, it is MOST likely CHRONIC ENDOMETRITIS, related with retention of placental fragments. It may lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) if NOT treated properly.

Saline ultrasound scan should be done to rule out underlying pathology (if any). It is quite helpful. Combined antibiotic therapy may be required following culture and drug sensitivity test (if needed).

Most cases are CURED by antibiotic therapy (Oral or IV). You should maintain your genital hygiene properly. Painkiller and hot water bottle are quite useful.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish your good health and take care yourself.
