Suggest Treatment For Chronic Hip And Lower Back Pain Since Pregnancy

Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: Hi,
I am about to turn 27 with chronic hip and lower back pain since I fell pregnant with my daughter 3 years ago. A hip specialist has diagnosed me with trochantric bursitis. I've been having cortisone injections with little relief, and I'm reluctant to take too many oxycodone tablets. Would a bursectomy be effective for me, or would the surgery make other problems since I'm so young?

Brief Answer:
Bursectomy is a safe option when other fails

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. The bursectomy is the safe procedure and is the last option to treat a painful bursae with recurrent swelling . It's removal does not affect the hip movement and the health of hip in the long run.
To help you better please tell me-
1.Is there any radiating pain from lower back to foot with numbness and tingling sensation?
2.What makes the pain worse / better ?

Looking forward to your reply.
Take care

Hi doctor,
I do have pain radiating to my back. It is agony. I do sometimes get numbness and a tingly sensation on that side (right) on occasion. Seems like the only thing that helps is oxycodone and sometimes the cortisone shot.
Thank you for your reply.

Hello
You are welcome
In the light of new information and discussion till now,I have following suggestions for you -
1.Give a fair trial for improvement in bursitis by physiotherapy, life style modification along with Ibuprofen and oral cortisone. Before you decide for bursectomy
2.I would recommend drug pregablin along with muscle relaxant drug thiocolchicoside for radiating pain and numbness.
Get them prescribed by your doctor.
