Suggest Treatment For Chronic Knee Pain

Posted on Sat, 11 Oct 2014
Question: I have ahd 11 left knee surgeries in the past and finally had a total knee replacement. I get occasional pain still and I take tramadol once in a while. my concern is that after I had to change my pcp and hospital, the doctors reading my file have diagnosed me with "chronic" knee pain. Now when I go in for any other type of pain related problem I think they think I'm drug seeking and I rarely get prescribed medication for pain trelief. Now I get severe anxiety any time the topic even arises. what do I do? I can't seem to get the right care.

The drug pregablin helps in sciatica pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. The whole issue is because you have been labeled as patient with chronic knee pain, this may be solved by having a discussion with your PCP.You may convince them that new pain is different from the knee pain. This may help.
Meanwhile for sciatica pain, you may have drug pregablin after discussion with your treating doctor.
Wishing you good health
Take care

yes he put me on valium and Neurontin and Percocet finally. The problem is that now that it seems That Im a 'chromic" knee patient how do I go about getting the right care with out being labeled. I argued to get some help and I also brought a family member in with me to discuss the issue of pain. I have spoken to the dr. Wjhat do I have to do change hospitals? Turn to the streets? It took forever for someone to listen to me

We are a family of healthcare professionals. 2 nurses, a physical therapist and 2 Drs. I understand the labeling of the "chronic" left knee pain. Although, I must say it's 10x better since it has been replaced. My old PCP wrote that I have had a long history to taking controlled pain meds only because of all the surgeries, but specifically wrote that has never had an issue coming off of them. no sign or symptoms of abuse. So, why this type of treatment in this much larger hospital setting. it's like a factory in there. How do I discuss this with my PCP again?

Hello
It’s good to see you.
I can understand the agony you are going through. This is a difficult situation to handle. You may change the hospital/PCP and always discuss the new problem first and if asked about the operation then discuss it otherwise do not start the issue of your own.
I hope your PCP will understand you better with time .You just follows your schedule of exercises and balanced diet to make you fit forever.
Do not lose hope.
Regards
