Question: Hello Doctor, hope your doing well.

I have been facing chronic lower back pain problem for couple of years. I experienced this problem for the first time when i was traveling by bus. Since then there is some hidden pain on my lower back. It appears very quite often. I don't feel any numbness in my legs or feet. The pain appears when i sit or stand for sometime. I never feel any kind of pain while walking or running infact i feel quite amount of relax while walking or running. I do exercise quite often but still i am not able to overcome from the pain. I wanted to show my spine reports to Dr to examine clearly what happened to my back, for that i need to know what kind of reports are required. Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
MRI of lumbo-sacral spine may be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for getting back.

Based on your symptoms, we need to do MRI of LUMBO-SACRAL SPINE in order to further evaluate you, and determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. This is because your symptoms are persisting for a couple of years.

MRI of spine would be able to show problems such as slipped disc, disc degeneration, thickening of ligaments, etc, which may result in pinching of nerves in the lower back.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Hello Dr, thanks for prompt reply. The one you suggested is same as "MRI LS Spine with whole spine screening", as I met Orthopedic Dr he suggested me to take this. Is screening is part of MRI or its separate? If it's separate do I need to take Screening also apart from MRI?

Brief Answer:
Screening is part of MRI.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Most standard MRIs with 1.5 Tesla or higher machines include screening of whole spine as a routine. You can enquire with the MRI centre/technician about this. If they do not include it as a routine, then, you can ask them to do it separately in the same sitting.

Brief Answer:
Mild abnormalities are noted.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

I have noted the MRI reports uploaded by you.

I would like to reassure you that there are no major or serious abnormalities noted in the MRI reports.

There is mild disc degeneration seen in lumbar region (lower back), however, there is no pinching of nerves at those areas.

So, there is no need for surgery.

Treatment would be with medications and physiotherapy.

Best wishes,
