Suggest Treatment For Chronic Tingling In Feet

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Sep 2014
Question: I have had tingling on the bottom of my feet for 7 months (toe to mid-arch). I have to tap my feet constantly because it feels like my feet are already asleep and I am trying to wake them up....all day long. Its also bothering me a lot as I try to go to sleep. It doesn't hurt. Its not like restless leg (which I've had) or plantars fascitis. Help!

Brief Answer:
Neuropathy may be the cause most likely thyroid

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. The tingling sensation in your feet may be caused by any disease which interferes with the blood and nerve supply of the legs. Although many medical conditions can cause tingling feet, Diabetes is the most common cause leading to nerve damage that is neuropathy.
In neuropathy, the leg nerves tend to become damaged first, at their furthest ends in the feet. This leads to tingling and numbness in the feet as well.
Do you smoke and take alcohol because there consumption may lead to tingling sensation in feet.
Beside diabetes other common causes are-
Chronic kidney disease (uraemia)
Vitamin deficiency (vitamin B12 and occasionally vitamin B6)
Alcohol abuse
Low thyroid hormone levels
Vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels)

My advice for you would be get following blood test done to find out the cause -
Fasting and after meal(pp) blood sugar test, Urine routine and microscopic test, Thyroid profile, Level of vitamin B12,Blood urea and serum creatinine level.
As far as treatment you may have drug pregablin under medical guidance beside vitamin B 12.
Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query
Regards

Thank you so much for your respond.
I do not smoke and drink. I drink only occasionally.

I don't think I have diabetic problem either. So I am thinking that my issue is from Thyroid disease or Vasculitis.
I will ask my doctor in locally to have me the blood test you mentioned.

I am wondering if this problem will be resolve without any medication.
Do you know if my condition will be better in time?
Is this serious health problem? Do I need to address quickly?

Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
It needs attention and may visit a local doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi
It's good to see you.
I have gone through your reply carefully. My suggestion for you would be-
1.Keep the Thyroid hormone within in normal limit.
2.Take vitamin B12 and B6 regularly along with prescription only drug pregablin for few days.
Regular exercises along with above said suggestions helps in recovery and stop the further progression of tingling. If it progress further then you may require a visit to neurologist.
Is the problem increasing for the last 7 months?
Wishing you good health.
Take care
