Suggest Treatment For Cold And Blocked Ears

Question: I am suffering from cold with my ears blocked.When used medication feeling OK.After that same problem. It is 20 days since this problem.

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

I see similar cases amongst veteran people who visit my clinic.

Common cold, if not treated properly, it can involve sinuses and blocks the eustachin tube ( tube connecting middle ear and nose).

I suggest you to visit an ent surgeon and get detailed ent examination, otoscopy, if necessary audiometry to know any fluid behind your ear drum).

If I were your treating doctor, I advise you to start antibiotics for sinusitis and decongesents like levocitrizine+ pseudoephidrine, and nasal drops like xylometazoline. mean time you can do valsalva manoere ( watch on youtube ) , chew chewing gum can be tried.

For the type, strength, dosage, duration, you need to visit an ent doctor, please take medications under medical supervision. I would not advise antibiotics with out clinical examination.

I had visited an ent. He says that there is some fluid behind eardrum.He says medication wont help to cure completely. I need to manage through exercises and vapour inhalation.Is chewing gum one such exercise as pointed out you..

As per your audiometry, fluid behind the intact ear drum, can be managed by

1. Surgery- Myringotomy with grommet.

2. Medications + valsalva exercises (watch youtube), chew chewing gum.

In chronic case, exercises will not help. only resort is surgery.
