Brief Answer:
No need for Cepodem - it's an antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

Cough and cold are viral 95% of the times in children. For cold you can use anti-allergics like cetirizine and for nose block, saline nasal decongestants will do. Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (max ceiling dose 500mg) every 4-6th hourly, that too only if fever is more than 100 degree F.

I'd suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
For cold you can use Cetrizine at 0.25mg/kg/dose every 12 hourly for 3 days.

For nasal block, plain saline nasal drops will do, every 4-6th hourly to relive nasal congestion.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are most welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.

Suggestions on common cold

Detailed Answer:
Hi.....you can give Syrup Cetrizine (strength 5mg per 5ml) at 2.5ml twice a day for 3 days.

For nasal congestion you can give saline nasal drops like Nasivion-S, 1 drop in each nostril every 4-6th hourly once if there nasal block.

But this is only a suggestion. Cetrizine is a prescription drug and you may need one for it.

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on not to use antibiotics indiscriminately

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... I understand your concern. But usually 95% of the times cough and cold like this in children are viral in origin. They do not require antibiotics at all. That is the reason why I am not suggesting you to give an antibiotic. If you start giving antibiotics for simple viral illness like this, then, when it is really required the antibiotics might not work. So please do not give antibiotics without proper evaluation like blood culture.

Antibiotic should be used only for bacterial infection and when the child is very sick. I will suggest you how a viral illness behaves, so that you will be more confident about viral illness.

Fever, cough and cold of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
