Suggest Treatment For Cold, Cough With Vomiting In A Child

Question: Hi Doc,
My 9month baby had fever last week and recovered in 2 days. Later after a day he had episodes of coughing and slight running nose. Since yesterday his cough has increased which leads to him throwing up his entire feed. This happens mainly after his dinner, while sleeping he starts coughing and vomit. I met my doc he said baby's chest and throat are clear and it's due to food regurgitation. He prescribed Domstal syrup before food. But even after giving this medicine tonight during sleep he started coughing and at the end vomited his complete food. And after that again slept but not vomiting.
Is it due to food regurgitation alone or he got slight cold and cough? Please advice.
Also what could be the possible reasons for regurgitation.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to the cough.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through your complaint very carefully and understand your concerns. I think that it is due to cough and cold that the problem of vomiting is occurring. The cough in the throat is causing irritation and is triggering a gag reflex (similar to what happens if you insert your toothbrush deep inside and touch your throat) which triggers the vomiting making him throw up.
Give some antiallergic like cetirizine along with steam inhalation. It will help in diluting the cough and would provide relief.
