Suggest Treatment For Cold, Fever, Wheezing, Pressure In The Chest And Breathing Difficulty

Question: I've been sick with a cold and even though my fever broke, I now have a lot of wheezing sounds when I exhale. Is this asthmatic or just chest congestion? I recorded a clip and can send you the audio file. I rarely get sick. Last time I had a cold was 2.5 years ago. But when I do I usually get acute asthmatic bronchitis. I'm concerned because I feel some pressure in my chest and talking for a few minutes exhausts me. I don't have wheezing when I'm not sick but the last few years I have had really bad shortness of breath upon the smallest physical exhertion.

Here's the link to the sound I recorded upon exhaling:

Brief Answer:
It looks like asthma or reactive airways disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

From your description it appears like asthma or reactive airways. Asthma can present in different intensities in different people starting from mild intermittent to chronic persistent asthma.

In your case it is intermittent and triggered by a bout of respiratory tract infection. Do you have any allergy issues or have you noticed that you are uncomfortable in dust and smoke.

You should first have a basic medical check up which should include a chest xray. Also get a spirometry done.

Whenever you have breathlessness and wheezing you will have to take antiallergens like montair lc daily and use inhalers like seroflo or symbicort or advair diskus. Once your symptoms are controlled these can be tapered off gradually.
