Question: I am feeling like I have a cold but I am seeing yellow green flem when I wake up in my throat. My nose when I blow is clear. I have a wheezing and assume I have a chest cold although it is still 80 degrees out.

What can I take over the counter to help?
I have ciprofloxacin hcl 500 from a while ago will that help?
I have sleep apnea and I need my nasal area clear and need to eliminate the stuffiness.
I take nadalol 30mg a day. Lisinopril 20mg a day. Prior Afib a year ago but actually my heart has not had a issue in a while since being on nadalol.

Brief Answer:
Over the counter mucinex, do not take ciprofloxacin.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. I would take the mucinex over the counter, it will help with the stuffiness. Please do not take ciprofloxacin, first off you will not have enough to take the full course, this will have a potential of partially treating infections if you had one and then mutation of bacteria to worse strains, so in essence next time compete the full course of antibiotics you are given even if you feel better as this kills the tail end of bacteria that are weakened but may regain infectivity. Secondly I do not believe that you have a bacterial infection. Most upper respiratory infections are viral in nature and thus antibiotics are not necessary. If you start to develop persistent fever and your symptoms continue to 7 days then you are probably safe seeing a doctor. The color of phlegm normally has no real bearing on treatment decision. I hope this helps you, good luck and take care.
