Suggest Treatment For Constant Pain In The Index Finger

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Sep 2017
Question: I have been experiencing constant pain in my index finger. It seems to be in the skin. It feels like it's in a vise and if I touch it it feels like I'm scrapping it with cut glass. I can no longer use it. And it is going into the middle finger and thumb . The knuckles seems to be affected now and at times have an itching sensation. I am a seamstress and my hand can take a beating. My finger have been poked with needles many times. I'm thinking cellulitis. I had a negative nerve test for carpal tunnel. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Could be nerve pressure at cervical spine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi , I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
I have read your description and the fact that negative nerve test for carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
In my opinion you are suffering from pressure on the nerves which supply your index finger. If it is not at the level of carpal tunnel, then possibly it is higher in neck or anywhere along the nerve root. One possible cause could be cervical spondylosis or cervical disc. I suggest you get MRI of neck and repeat nerve test for cervical nerve roots.
In the meantime start mild pain killers, and a combination of gabaneuron and vitamin B12, along with physiotherapy of neck.
Cellulitis is a different condition .
Thanx for the question.
