Suggest Treatment For Constipation After Suffering A Stroke
Question: My husband had a stroke and was moved yesterday from a skilled nursing facility to a Board and Care. He
can not walk without help. He gets very constipated and the nurse has asked me to buy a stool softener,
suppositories and Fleet enema. Does that sound ok?

Brief Answer:
yes
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Yes the stool softeners and suppositories should be tried first, but if they do not work then a Fleet's enema would be the next thing to try.
Miralax is also a good product to use as a laxative but should only be used occasionally.
Constipation can cause serious problems so it is good that they are trying to prevent this condition from becoming serious.
