Regulations on disability may vary somewhat among different countries. However when it comes to that diagnosis I am afraid that it will be impossible to benefit from disability. That is because that diagnosis means that (fortunately) there is no underlying lesion of the brain or another organ, but they are of a psychological origin. Actually work would benefit patients with these disorder.

As for whether it is considered a mental illness, yes, it is included in the classification of mental disorders.
