Suggest Treatment For Corneal Epithelial Defect
Question: Hello, I had phototherapeutic Keratectomy laser surgery on my right eye 10 days ago, to remove corneal scarring, and to helpfully improve my vision. I am now taking eye drops and ointment in the eye, noticing some improvement- yet my vision is still blurry. How long can I expect to feel this way, before my vision improves? Is this normal? Please help
Brief Answer:
The vision improvement takes 4-6 weeks.

Welcome to Health care magic
I am Dr Dadapeer k an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.
I reviewed your history.
The improvement in vision following photo therapeutic keratectomy takes 4-6 weeks as this involves corneal epithelial defect and vision will become normal once the defect in the cornea is healed.
Hence you need to continue the treatment as advised by your doctor.
Since there is some improvement in vision your vision will improve once the corneal epithelial defect is healed.
Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Thank you. Is this common, or will I see gradual improvement? What is the procedure if the vision doesn't improve by the 4-6 week timeframe? Thanks
Brief Answer:
Improvement in vision will occur gradually.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.
Gradual improvement is seen following phototherapeutic keratectomy. This is because of the time taken for healing of corneal epithelium.
The vision will improve by 4-6 weeks and after this period contact lenses or spectacles are prescribed for improvement in vision.
Hope this is helpful to you.

Thanks Doctor. Are the contact lenses or glasses prescribed only if the vision doesn't improve after 6 weeks? Is this surgery usually successful? I know that nothing is guaranteed, however the main reason for me to have this surgery, was to improve my vision. Not a lot is written on this surgery. Is it fairly common? I had mine done at Wills Eye Hospital
Brief Answer:
It is common to prescribe spectacles.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up.
The final vision depends on the coexisting conditions.
Spectacles or contact lenses are prescribed in most of the cases following photo therapeutic keratectomy.
Hence we will wait for 6 weeks and hope for the best.
