Question: I caught a cold from my grandson...and it wont go away. Aug 22nd were the first signs of it, now Oct 25th I still have a cough with occasional Flem coming up, itchy sensation in chest when I take a deep breath, cough when I laugh, breath heavy or if pressure is applied to my chest or back. It keeps going from sinuses to chest. I have pressure in center nose area, sometimes my ears hurt to touch, they crunch every time I blow my nose and have constant pressure. When I blow my nose its mostly clear sometimes yellowish. Tired and weak more than not. The doctor gave me steroids for a week when my chest had wheezing and burning sensation, that went away. I went back 9/9/16 and she gave me: 10 (20mg)tablets of Prednisone, proair oral inh (8.5gm) use as needed for wheezing (this one made me feel worse). and a nasal spray that didn't seem to help. None of those made a difference. I went back again 10/4/16 and she gave me levofloxacin 500mg (qty 10) that seemed to be helping but then I plateaued again and have a consistent cough with fuzzy slight burning sensation in my chest. I'm not blowing my nose as much but all the other symptoms are still there. When I went in she listened to my chest and said "I don't hear anything loose" but never gave me a chess ex ray. I'm tired of being sick! Can you help?

Brief Answer:
Supportive care

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking
I read your question and i understand your concern. Repeated sinuses congestions, air ways irritation, cough burning sensation in chest not responding to conventional therapies should be evaluated for other possibilities. Acid reflux is the commonest cause for these repeated non explained non responding sinuses and upper airway issues. Apart from it allergies and local ENT pathologies like nasal septal deviation, eustachian tube defects should be evaluated.
Talk to your doctor and let them sort it out for possible cause. I believe its acid reflux. you need to modify diet and lifestyle , eat small frequent meals , avoid triggers , alcohol , beverages, soda, coffee, processed canned foods etc.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
