Suggest Treatment For Cough And Mild Sore Throat During Pregnancy

My wife is 6 month pregnant and last week she started getting cough with mild sore throt. Throat is cured after 1-2 days but she still has cough. Currently she is just doing gargling hot salt water. Could you please suggest if she should take any medication for this?
sore throat in pregnancy...take antibiotics as mentioned
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to healthcare magic.com
If the sore throat is mild then she can continue saline warm water gargles thrice a day with steam inhalation at night. Generally if its a viral infection then it subsides with symptomatic treatment in 4-5 days.
But if you feel that she has cough with sputum and has fever as well then she may take --- Tab Azithromycin 500mg once a day for 3 days + Tab Paracetamol 500mg twice a day for 3 days .
Both these medications are safe in pregnancy and can be safely taken in bacterial infection. These medications are not available off the counter but rather have to be prescribed. So for the prescription you may have to visit your primary care physician.
She must continue her gargling and add steam inhalation to it.
She should be relieved in next 2 days .
I hope i have answered your query in detail,
Wishing her safe pregnancy,
Regards

Thank you for the answer.
We have been to physician (Internal Med.) he suggested us -
augmentin 625 duo twice a day for seven days.
She right now, only has cough issue and slight sputum only in the morning (light green color). There is no fever.
Could you please guide-
1)if she can take these medicines during pregnancy?
2) Is this dose is OK to take? can it be reduced ? (in case cough gets over before 7 days)
Thank you in advance.
yes you can use it
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I really don't think augmentin would be required for so long for just mild cough and slight sputum. This is safe in pregnancy and can be used. If the cough subsides in 3-5 days then you may stop the drug after atleast 3 days of treatment and continue the supportive measures. The dose is fine and need not be reduced for a pregnant adult.
