Suggest Treatment For Cough And Wheezing
Asthma
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
You are experiencing cough and wheezing. This is a usual sign of asthma. If you are a smoker then you are more apt to have early onset asthma and I would recommend that you stop smoking. If you do not smoke then you may have allergies. These allergies, usually pollens or animal dander, may be causing irritation to your bronchial tree and starting wheezing. The wheezing is constriction of the bronchial tree making the air wheeze as it goes through tight areas in your lungs. Another common cause of wheezing and cough especially after laying flat if GERD or gastroesophageal reflux. This is when acid from the stomach rolls up into the throat and causes tightening of the throat and wheezing.
To treat your condition I would first try using omeprazole for GERD as this is the most common cause of wheezing and cough in adult men who have no history of allergies or smoking. Next if that does not work then I would see your PCP for further testing and possible treatment options with inhalers.
In summary
1. wheezing caused by constriction of the bronchial tree
2. Causes possible smoking. The stop smoking
3. Asthma from allergies Need inhaler from PCP
4. GERD try Omeprazole OTC

Possible asthma
Detailed Answer:
If the cough is productive but only clear sputum then the most likely cause is allergy. I would probably suggest first trying over the counter allergy medications like Zyrtec or Claritin. If these medications do not help reduce your cough and wheezing then I recommend you see your medical doctor to investigate the possibility of asthma.
Less likely is the GERD since you have the cough while sitting and you are having a clear productive sputum.
