Question: Problem title : Congestion and Flu Shot
I remain congested after a cold about two weeks ago. It was a bad cold with a lot of congestion, cough, sore throat, sneezing, and a fever. I remain congested and wondering if a flu shot would be possible and effective at this time?

Brief Answer:
No, flu shot is not effective at this point.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Flu shot (influenza vaccine) is not effective in acute infection.
This vaccine starts its protective effect after 21-28 days.
And flu vaccine is contraindicated in acute infection like yours.
So first try to resolve this infection.
So drink plenty of fluids orally.
Do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day.
Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
Take antihistamine like levocetrizine and paracetamol combination twice daily for 5 days.
Once this subside, take flu shot.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
