I have had coughing episodes for weeks I have been diagnosed with copd but as of a few minutes ago I coughed up blood. The strange thing is before today I was having a problem breathing and I laid it off to the pollen I have taken Claritin
could that be the problem I feel fine.
You might be having worsening of COPD.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Blood in sputum is known as hemoptysis.
And COPD is the most common cause for this.
Other possible causes are
1. Pneumonia
2. Tuberculosis
3. Lung cancer.
So better to get done chest x ray to rule out these causes.
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry for these causes.
You are mostly having worsening of underlying COPD.
Since you are having breathing problem and exposure to pollens, possibility of COPD worsening is more.
And claritin is loratidin. It is antihistamine. So it will suppress your cough and gives you good feeling.
But, I insist you to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system.
2. Chest x ray to rule out above mentioned causes.
3. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out worsening of COPD.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
