Suggest Treatment For Cyclothymia
Question: Dear Doctor ... In answer to an earlier query about my husband's moods, I'm wondering how Cyclothymia is treated.
Brief Answer:
mood stabiliser drugs.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Hope you are doing good.
Cyclothymia is a form of mood disorder which is to be treated with mood stabiliser drugs. The most widely used drug is lithium.
Other than this, some antipsychotic drugs like quetiapine are also used if there are behavioral problems.
The drug therapy will stabilise the mood and prevent emergence of bipolar disorder.
Kindly discuss this with your local psychiatrist.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.
Take care.
Thanks.

I just want to thank you for that. The hardest part will be to know how best to talk with my husband about this, as he won't want to admit there's anything wrong: he'll think that it's my problem & I'm self-righteous (as he sometimes says)
Brief Answer:
persuade him to go to a doctor atleast.
Detailed Answer:
You are most welcome :)
I understand that persuading him for treatment might be difficult.
But then, if he believes you to be the one who is self-righteous, you can insist him to visit a doctor for assessment of both of you.
Persuade him to let the doctor decide who needs the treatment.
Hopefully this might prove a reason for him to consult a doctor. Then your doctor can do whats best for both of you.
I wish he agrees to treatment and gets well soon.
I am always available for help if you have more queries.
Take care.
