Suggest Treatment For Dark Patches On Nose
Question: Hello!
This a query for a dermatologist.
My Wife has off late developed a dark skin patch around her nose area on the face. pictures as attached.
She is 33 years old and has no major medical history apart from PCOD, for which she is on Occasional Progesterone Drug.
The colaration of the skin has gradually darkenned over the last 2 to 3 months. As such she has no known allergies.
This a query for a dermatologist.

I have seen the attached photographs. The facial discolouration is obvious but the pigmentation on the nose is not very apparent. I would recommend you to send some clearer picture of the nose area.
You have mentioned that your wife is taking some progesterone preparations for PCOD. It is seen that many patients on hormonal therapy develop facial pigmentation. This normally disappears once the treatment is stopped and sometimes little longer. For the time being ask your wife to avoid direct sun exposure and make use of umbrella, sunglasses and scarf/ stole whenever out in the sun.
In such cases I also recommend my patients to use a high spf sunscreen during the day time at intervals of 3-4 hours along with a cream containing kojic acid to be applied on the dark areas twice daily.
I also want to ask you few questions:
Is your wife having dandruff problem?
Has she used any medicines in the past? If yes which medicines has she used?
Is she having any thyroid abnormality?

2. My wife is on Melmet SR 500, as advised by her Gynaec for regulating her periods. She has the tablet daily 1-0-1.
3. As such her daily routine does not require any exposure to direct sunlight apart from an Occasional exposure to Sunlight.
4. She has no known allergies and was tested for the same couple of years back.
5. Yes, she does suffer from Dandruff and usually uses Anti Dandruff Shampoo for the same.
6. She does not have any Thyroid related issues.

I have seen the newly uploaded photographs and can appreciate the pigmentation on the sides of the nose. It seems this pigmentation is related to her dandruff problem. In such cases I recommend my patients to use a cream containing combination of eumosone and miconazole. This will lighten the nose pigmentation.
Melmet SR 500 is not a progesterone preparation. It is not related to the facial pigmentation seen in your wife.
Even if there is occasional sun exposure in your wife I would still recommend her to use sunscreen regularly.
