Brief Answer:
Sun protection along with pigment reducing cream

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have understood your concern.

Facial skin is always exposed and darkening is commonly due to sun exposure i.e tanning, specially in those who stay outdoors. However cosmetics like otc fairness creams and other factors like using mustard oil on skin, lichen planus pigmentosus, acanthosis nigricans can also lead to darkening of facial skin. On the other hand a conditon like melasma is largely idiopathic.
Sun protection is an essential first step in the management of facial pigmentation. A sunscreen with spf 30 or more, would be ideal. You need to apply it every 2-3 hours, throughout the day.
Avoidance of all cosmetics like fairness creams, oils etc is recommended.
You may use a pigment reducing cream containing one or more of the skin lightening agents e.g kojic acid, glycolic acid, azaleic acid etc, once or twice daily.
In addition, Chemical peeling is quite a good option for pigmentation. A few sessions of glycolic acid chemical peeling from a dermatologist near you would add on to the overall improvement.
