Question: My friend has been experiencing a feeling of bugs under the skin and is sure he has some kind of rare parasite or some kind of mites he has been to three doctors and they don't look at what he shows them he has taken out of his skin. he also has swollen legs ,feet hands at times, experiences knives stabbing his feet, get white finger tips and toes and is always in pain. HE THINKS THE BUGS HAVE CONSOMED HIS BODY AND WILL PROBABLY KILL HIM.I myself think he has some neurological problems stemming from his neck surgery and his 2 hip replacements.. I am very worried as he has white and sometimes blue finger tips and toes. He has picked several holes in his hands and arms claiming there are bigs and pulls out what appears to be worm type matter. he thinks they are bugs like dermodex mites. what do you think.

Brief Answer:
It could be delusional parasitosis

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Although it is never possible to make a final diagnosis without formally examining a patient but available information suggests possibility of delusional disorder which is kind of delusional disorder. The disorder often occurs in individuals who are above 50 years of age, live alone, have a personality dominated by doubts and positive psychiatric history.

I understand that he may not have all risk factors but finding of nothing by different doctors and possible explanation almost confirms the possibility of diagnosis.

I must acknowledge that it will be very difficult for you to convince him to see a psychiatrist but this is the only option to get him treated as other specialties find it difficult to control the abnormal thought process and resultant behavior.

I hope this helps you.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
