Suggest Treatment For Dental Abscess Below A Filled Root Canal Tooth

Posted on Mon, 9 Nov 2015
Question: Hello! We found an infection on a root canal done over 10 years ago on one of my molars, dentist advice me to clean it up and have the canal redone, we began the procedure on tuesday and put a temporary filling, however I have been in terrible pain since Tuesday especially at night and when I bend with my head facing down. Sometimes I feel like the pain reflects off other teeth and sometimes travels up my nose to my eye, I am on ampiclox for antibiotics and in the first trimester of pregnancy, what could be wrong should I be in pain, given its the second root canal?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX ,

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query .

I have read your query and understand your concern . As far as radiating pain (pain in other teeth , nose , eyes ) or pain in root canal treated tooth is concerned it can be due to Reinfection in tooth and there might be some defect in root canal treatment tooth which is causing Reinfection and pain.

For this I will suggest you to consult good Endodontist and get evaluated . In case if there is infection or defect in root canal treatment i suppose after an xray you will be advised to get tooth extracted . Inmeantime you do warm saline rinses . You can take analgesic Paracetamol for pain along with Ampiclox by consulting with your doctor . Avoid chewing from affected side .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.
