Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea In A Child

Question: My son aged 9 having stomach problem after eating fish curry. Might be the fish is not fresh one. he having loose motion 2 or 3 times since yesterday and little stomach ache. he is not eating properly due to this problem. Please suggest a medication.

Thanks for your query.

It looks like he is having gastroenteritis. You can give him Tab. Loperamide 2mg twice a day for one day. It comes in chew-able tablets, tablets and syrup form. Enterogermina respules(probiotics) twice a day for 2 days, after food.

Give him plenty of fluids to maintain hydration, with water, curds, buttermilk, tender coconut water, soups, etc.

As long as it doesn't persist or has fever symptomatic treatment is sufficient otherwise will have to start with antibiotics.
