Suggest Treatment For Difficulty In Pronouncing Words
Its happened before where this ability to pronounce words becomes a tad difficult, i dont mean like a stroke difficult, but almost as if my tongue and/or jaw arent functioning 100%. Its more of a sensation than an actual prevention to pronounce words. Wondering if it could the antibiotic im currently on, stress, undiagnosed anxiety, or if its something more serious underlying.
Thank you
Cause of difficulty in pronouncing words
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. After reading your history, I can say that you had some difficulty in pronunciation. But there was no actual slurring or aphasia. There was one such episode in past also.
You have also mentioned few causes like stress, anxiety, antibiotics. I agree with you. All these factors can cause your symptoms. There are few other causes also like
- Transient ischemic attack - It means sudden, temporary decrease in blood supply to speech area of brain. It occurs in episodes and it is a warning sign of ischemic stroke. It can be ruled out by MRI brain and angiography of neck.brain vessels.
- Tongue muscles or oral cavity muscle weakness - Initially, it present as difficulty in speaking and later manifest as slurring and inability to pronounce words. Patient is usually able to make sounds, but no speech. It can occur due to
Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Myasthenia Gravis (MG)
Involvement of 9,10 cranial nerves due to tumor/ischemia
To diagnose it, you should consult neurologist and get MRI brain done if any doubt. Further, MS and MG need some blood tests to confirm.
In your case, if you are having stress of infection, I think the symptoms are most probably due to mental stress and undiagnosed anxiety. You are quite young to have stroke or ischemia.
To be on safe side, consult doctor and get yourself examined. If physical and nervous system examination is ok, don't worry. Consult psychiatrist to relieve anxiety. He might prescribe you tablet clonazepam.
Hope it will help you. If still in doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
management of your symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, welcome back.
I got your point. Your heart is ok, that is a good news. It also suggests that ischemia is least likely. You can wait for MRI brain.
You should follow few steps and observe if there is relief in your symptoms or not
- Avoid mental stress. Deviate your mind and indulge yourself in some activities which you like
- Drink plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated. It will relieve your dryness of mouth and will give some relief in symptoms.
- Try to do some meditation or Yoga. It will relieve your mental stress and anxiety.
- If possible consult psychiatrist for evaluation. If there is anxiety, he will prescribe you anxiolytics like clonazepam. It will give you some relief.
- Take to your family and friends. Their support will help you.
If still no relief, I suggest you to go for neurological examination and MRI brain.
Hope it will help you. If still in doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
