Suggest Treatment For Disc Prolapse

Question: Dr XXXXXXX heijebu.your advice regarding my back ache was very helpful.I had my MRI which revealed mild disc prolapse,in L3-L4 region with mild disc edema,what is the treatment for this,i am taking analgesics right now?can I improve and get rid over of my pain?Do you want me to visit Simhadri hospital again or should I consult another doctor?

Hi Sir,

I understand your query and concern.

Yes certainly disc prolapse needs management in the form of discectomy and disc reconstruction in most cases.

Since the degree of prolapse is mild ,it can even be managed through non operative measures through mechanical support like lumbar corset.

The disc edema will absorb by itself in majority of cases or by drugs like low dose steroids.

I advise you to go back to Simhadri hospital and refer yourself to consultant neurosurgeon at the earliest.


Meanwhile you can continue with the analgesics.
