Suggest Treatment For Discomfort And Pain On The Neck
Question: Hello, Ive been having throat issues. Very mild discomfort and pain to the right of my XXXXXXX apple. That side seems to be larger (swollen) than the left, and when I move it around it pops and clicks. I get clicking and popping on both sides, but the right side always seems to pop out of place. also, the muscle that runs from the base of the skull to the collarbone is a little swollen and tender. I visited a PA a couple days ago and she said she thought it was gerd and prescribed some medication for that. I don't agree with her diagnosis as I have had no real gastro issues to speak of. The clicking / popping is really bothering me, and now I cant stop poking and prodding at my throat and moving my XXXXXXX apple around. There is also a click when I swallow, but I do not have any difficulty swallowing or intense pain associated with it. It's just a strange, very mild, deep ache, and I have to push quite hard on my throat to feel what seems to be a swollen gland to the right of my XXXXXXX apple that moves around and clicks / pops. I feel fine otherwise. Male, 36 yo 6 ft tall 198 lbs. Thank you!
Brief Answer:
Ultrasound abdomen and guided biopsy is must in your case.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.
I understand your concern.
This definitely isnt GERD.
Only two major possibilities should strike the diagnosis in your case.
1.Inflammation of thyroid-thyroiditis or any thyroid pathology
2.Swollen lymph node in the pre and paratracheal region. The cause of which is once again thyroid pathology or other source in the oropharyngeal cavity.
For differentiating both I advise you to have an ultrasound of the neck and U/S guided FNAC of the plopping mass.
Further management depends only the outcome of the test results.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
