Could Sore Throat And Catarrh Mean Recurrence Of Thyroiditis?

I am recovering from thyroiditis, waiting for my levels to come down...my throat is sore again and have thick catarrh stuck low in my throat.....I am f/m. 48 and a little overweight. I have coughed up another thick flat lump again, I don t want this to recur again. Am waiting to see the consultant on the 21st to check my levels..I am currently taking 2.5mg bisoprolol reduced from 5mg a few days ago as I feel dizzy .....could the sore throat mean it s coming back?

Hello,

Subacute thyroiditis is the most common cause for neck pain.

This condition Subacute often follows a viral illness and begins with what many people call a sore throat(like in your case) but actually proves to be neck pain localized to the thyroid.

About the catarrh in your throat,in my opinion it can be a concomitant upper respiratory tract infection that cause this problem.

You should know that the symptoms of subacute thyroiditis usually go away within 12 to 18 months. In some cases, however, hypothyroidism may end up being permanent.
Abnormalities of the thyroid(especial hypothyroidism that can be due to your subacute thyroidism) may also cause dizziness as a symptom.

Sore throat doesn't mean that subacute thyroiditis is coming back. It can mean that you have a cold ,bacterial infection of the throat or even allergies.

I suggest to consult physically your local doctor for the right diagnosis and treatment.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
