Suggest Treatment For Discomfort In A New Born Child
Question: Hello doctor,
My newborn 30 day old baby boy is showing some discomfort since morning. He is crying and just wants to be with his mother, he seems to be comparatively calmer when with mother.
I happened to check his temparature just now and it turned out to be 99.3 degree. I am not sure if he is crying either to be with his mother or due to the temperature.
Kindly advice if the body temperature needs to be taken seriously and if we should immediately visit an hospital now?
Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
If the baby is feeding well nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi... I understand your concern. Any baby less than 3 month old with fever should be observed cautiously.
The danger signs include -
1. Complete stopping of breastfeeding.
2. Up rolling of eyeballs or seizures.
3. High grade fever above 100 to 102.
4. Abdominal distension.
5. Continuous vomiting or diarrhoea.
6. Fast breathing with respiratory rate above 60 per minute associated with grunting.
If these danger signs or Red flag signs are not there you need not worry about temperature till hundred degrees Fahrenheit.
