Suggest Treatment For Displaced Tendon On Foot
Question: Hi I broke my fifth metatarsal on my right foot, at the top... It was displaced, they explained it was from the tendon pulling at it in my fall when i rolled my ankle.
I'm in a "moon boot" now. They were 50 /50 as to operate. The bone was displaced but they said, these things often heal themselves. It's about a month in and the bone is still pronounced on my foot, like it is still displaced. Compared to my other foot there is a lump. I'm concerned If I just leave it, in a month they'll say. Yeah it's still displaced you need surgery and I'll be back at step 1. Should I be pushing them? Or should I just be patient.

Brief Answer:
It is better to wait.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The visible lump on the foot can be due to the displaced bone or due to callus formation at the site of healing. It often resolves on its own in 10-12 weeks. The bone comes in place and the extra bone dissolves off leaving a normal bone behind. It is best to wait and let the bone heal on its own. You can get an X-ray done to confirm this.
I hope this answers your query.

Hi there, thank you for your advice. Just quickly, if my foot does start feeling better and it feels comfortable enough to wear normal shoes. Is this ok? Also would mild acticity be ok at the gym, like the eliptical trainer or light cycling? If there is no pain?

Yes if it has been more than 4 weeks.
