Question: I just started taking atorvisatin(40 ml) recently after having been diagnosed with stroke. I am also on plavix (75mil). I have been taking Lisinipril (20mil) for years. Since I've been on the new medications I Ave been experiencing dizziness and low blood pressure. I have even stopped taking my blood pressure meds, and the pressure has still been low, averaging 110/69

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that low blood pressure is not a known adverse effect of atorvastatin or Plavix.

Your symptoms could be related to the stroke.

Anyway, as you have been taking simvastatin before, I would recommend switching from atorvastatin to simvastatin, which you have tolerated better (these drugs belong to the same pharmacological class).

Regarding low blood pressure values, they could be related to the low physical activity after stroke.

Anyway, I agree with your decision on stopping blood pressure medication, as your blood pressure remains low. These values 110/69 are within the normal ranges and there is nothing to be concerned of.

I would just recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure values frequently during the day. Taking plenty of fluids or increasing salt intake can help stay well hydrated.

If your blood pressure remains low, I would recommend consulting with your GP for a physical exam and some tests to exclude other possible causes:

- a resting ECG
- a chest X ray study
- complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalance.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
