Question: Hello, my name is XXXX and I take 15 mg of abilify in the morning, 1 mg of klonopin three times a day, 45 mg of remeron and 6 mg of melatonin at night to help me sleep. Tonight at 8 pm I took 30 mg of remeron, and I woke up at 10:30 with itching and burning all over my body. I had not taken melatonin tonight, I had taken it at 2 am last night. So do you think I had an allergic reaction to the remeron or do you attribute it to melatonin or perhaps the combination of both? Also, I only got three hours of sleep on the remeron so is there something else I could take that would not interact with my other medications (abilify, klonopin, remeron) because I am scared to take the melatonin. Could I take 10 mg of saphris or 10 mg of ambien? Or what about 100 or 150 mg of trazadone? It said on drugs.com that taking abilify and saphris together could cause side effects like drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, heat intolerance, flushing, decreased sweating, difficulty urinating, abdominal cramping, constipation, irregular heartbeat, confusion, and memory problems. Please tell me what you think caused the itching and burning and what else I could take tonight for sleep. Also, do you think zopiclone (zimovane) is a good medication for sleep?

Brief Answer:
I do not think it is allergic reaction

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that it is highly unlikely to have allergic reaction to mirtazapine (Rameron). This is because mirtazapine helps in allergic reaction as it has antihistaminergic properties. I mean to say that this is a medicine which is helpful in treatment of allergic reaction. In addition allergy never develops after months of use. As I know you are using it for at least last few weeks there is no possibility that you develop allergy due to mirtazapine. Having said this it is possible that your allergic reaction due to some other factors was under control with 45 mg of mirtazapine which got uncovered when you reduced the dose to 30 mg per day.

The same duration criteria described above applies to melatonin and it is highly unlikely that this allergic reaction was due to melatonin.

Regarding the sleep I must inform you that at the dose of 30-45 mg of mirtazapine the sedative properties are very low and it remains unhelpful for sleep purpose. However at the dose of 15 mg or 22.5 mg it acts better for sleep and it is possible that lowering of dose may help you.

I am not convinced with idea of saphris as sedative medicine but you can safely use ambient or zimovane. Both of these molecules are non addictive and quite helpful in sleep if the lowering the dose of ramrod does not help you.

I will prefer ambien over zimovane.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.
