Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough
Acute Laryngitis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM
Dry cough along with hoarse voice is suggestive of Acute Laryngitis, which is usually caused by viral infection. Symptoms usually subside in 10-12 days.
You can try the following measures for symptom relief
-Please be advised to follow voice rest. Do not talk too much or talk very loudly. Please be careful not to whisper. Whispering can put extra strain on vocal cords.
-Warm saline gargle three times daily
-Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
-You can take Tylenol if pain develops
-If you have associated allergy symptoms like sneezing, runny nose etc, use cetirizine 10 mg once daily.
-Avoid smoking, if you do so
If the symptoms do not decrease in next 3 days, follow up with an ENT specialist to rule out possible bacterial infection and initiation of antibiotics if needed.
