Suggest Treatment For Dry Lips While On Accutane

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Dec 2016
Question: My son has dry lips from taking accutane. Two weeks ago, we thought he got a cold sore. It went away within a few days, but then the area surrounding his lips from nose down, corners and and under bottom lip started severely weeping and crusting over badly. He can't talk or eat with out the area splitting open, but his actual lips are fine. What can this possibly be? Thank you!!

Brief Answer:
Cheilitis most probably

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It seems that most probably your son has developed cheilitis. Accutane might be the triggering factor. Kindly consult the dermatologist for the perfect diagnosis and proper treatment.

I would suggest ..

- antibiotics
- antihistaminics
- steroids in tappering dose
- apply mild steroid with antibiotic cream
- avoid soap
- lip balm to moisturise the area

I hope this would help your son.

Thanks.
