Suggest Treatment For Dull Throat Pain And Dry Cough

Question: Hello Doctor,

I am 35 year old. I am having GERD. I take only omeprazole tablet before food night since 10 days. I m am 5.3 height, 56 KG weight. Since, 2 months I am having a kind od dull throat pain and a dry cough and feel something strucked or swollen in my throat. I am able to eat food normally. Yesterday I went to an ENT Doctor he did some test and suggested me to take the above attached medication.

I have attached his report for your review. Could you please explain me in detail what exactly happened to my throat as per his report. Could you please advise me should I take the medication what he has given by stopping omeprazole. Could you please suggest me if I need to do any further tests?

Hi

Thanks for the query.

The complaints stated by you all can be because of GERD as the acid reflux can lead to some inflammation and edema in the upper food pipe and lower throat.

The test needed for you is mainly the endoscopy which will examine the throat as well as food pipe and stomach.

Regarding the prescription given by your doctor, he has done an endoscopic examination of your lower throat. Treatment prescribed is similar to omeprazole but with some additions.

Please use these medicines as advised and you should be fine.

Also avoid excessive tea, coffee and spicy food. Also avoid alcohol.

I just want to know is endoscopy is a must now? Am I need to consult Gasto specialist for this?

Endoscopy will be required if the symptoms persist despite this treatment.

If an endoscopy needs to be planned, a gastro consultation will be asked for. Otherwise ENT will suffice.
