Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection And Pain In The Ears
Question: Hey dr,
I've been suffering from chronic ear infections for a while now, and I have had a cold for the past couple of days which has started to get better. But now i'm starting to get slight ear pains in my right ear and when I press the cannal it hurts as well. What steps can I take in order to prevent it from getting worse because i'd really like to avoid another one if at all possible. I've already been taking Vitiam C/Zinc tablets since my cold started along with cold and flu tablets that contain paracetamol, codeine and phenylephrine but I haven't had any today.
Kind Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
You can use ear drops
Detailed Answer:
Hello
If there is pain in the ear then it means that the infection is already setting in and the best way to prevent it from worsening would be to use antibiotic ear drops.
Normally in my patients I would start with ciprofloxacin ear drops, 2 drops 4 to 5 times a day for 5 days.
Please continue the other medications for cold as they will also prevent the spread of infection.
I would also like you to keep the ear dry and avoid water entering into the ear. Also you must not use ear buds for cleaning the ear as it can aggravate the infection.
Take care
