Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection When Allergic To Amoxocillian
Question: My daughter seems to be allergic to amoxocillian but still has an ear infection, what other antibiotics or medicines can I give her to help clear up the infection? and what can I do to prevent future ear infections, she seems to be getting quite a few (2 in the last 3 months)?
Brief Answer:
try azithromycin
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Some kids are allergic to amoxicillin.
It is usually recommended to switch to azithromycin in such children.
I usually prescribe around 150 mg daily for 5 days for such patients in my clinic.
To prevent further infections
1. Flu and Pneumococcal vaccination
2. Avoiding crowded places with baby
3. Wash hands before handling baby
4. Adults or other kids at home with children cold or cough symptoms should not handle the baby.
Wishing your child good health.
