Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection

Question: Went to a doctor at an urgent care 6 days ago after experiencing ear pain and a clogged feeling for a few days. Pain was pretty extreme.. He prescribed amoxicillin. After three days with no improvement, went to my regular doctor. She cleaned out the ear and said I had an outer ear infection and prescribed clotrimazole drops. I have been using them for 2 days. ear still feels very full and I can really hear out of it; also some crackling type noises. The bigger problem is severe burning pain when I use the clotrimazole. The pain goes away after 10 minutes or so but it is pretty bad. Also, I can feel the medicine in my throat on the same side as the affected ear. Is it safe to keep using the medicine? Any other suggestions?

Brief Answer:
You are having ear perforation with fungus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are having ear perforation with fungal infection since you feel ear drop in throat.

If I were your treating doctor, I would advice you
Stop using clotrimazole ear drop ,
Consult ENT specialist & get the ear clean under microscope ,
Keep ear dry (don't put any ear drop) ,don’t allow water go inside while bath ,
Use Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Antihistaminic levocetirizine + Montelukast combination &
antibiotic Ofloxacin + ornidazole after food in place of amoxicillin.

Here my suggestion is that you should consult your ENT doctor for thorough examination, necessary investigations and treatment.

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards
