Suggest Treatment For Elevated HbA1c Levels
Question: I'm a 71 yr old male in very healthy condition. my last a1c was 7.6 and my doctor for 3 months has had me on tradjenta 05mg and tomorrow I get checked again. I have no other systems related to sugar. should I be taking meds?
I'm 5'11 and weigh 217lbs
6 months ago my a1c was 6.9. I had lost 15 lbs. this last readings of 7.6 was due to no change in my eating. I eat what I want.
at age 71 and my good health , should I be taking med.s if my a1c is between 7 and 8 ?

Brief Answer:
Yes, medicines are needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome to HCM,
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
Firstly, yes, you need to take the medicines. Both Hba1c values are beyond normal.
However, I would suggest testing a FBS and PPBS (2hr post prandial) as well. If these are normal , possibly Hba1c will need to be tested again.
Meanwhile, start with diet control and moderate physical activity as tolerated.
Please feel free to contact us for more information.
Best of luck.
