Brief Answer:
SGOT 50 units is not serious concern, please control alcohol and fat intake

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing into health care magic.
This is Dr.Riyanka, glad to answer your query.

SGOT (serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase) or AST test is a liver enzyme level which is measured in the blood. It reflects mainly liver functions and its normal range is 5 to 40 units.

Your level of 50 units is just above normal and not a serious concern if you do not have any symptoms of liver disease in the past or present. Many normal people also have SGOT levels as in you. If you are in the habit of taking alcohol and fatty foods regularly then you might have to control it.

In most diseases, SGOT levels more than 5 to 10 times normal is seen. Please do not worry if your result is 50 units.
