Suggest Treatment For Elevated Bilirubin Levels

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I regularly have elevated bilirubin levels during blood tests. Other liver numbers are normal. When I had a gallstone removed from a duct previously the doctor said that I have Gilbert's Syndrome. I think that it gives me a feeling of fatigue as a result. Are there medicines you could suggest to reduce this bilirubin or reduce possibility of new gallstones forming?

Brief Answer:
Surgery has already prevented the possibility of new stone forming!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Gallstone form when bile is collected and stored in the gall bladder. This leads to concentration and formation of gall stones. With the gall bladder removed already, bile would flow directly into the intestines and there would be no possibility for a gall stone to form again.

Gilbert's syndrome is an inborn mild bilirubin processing disorder. It require no treatment and posses no extra risk to your health. There is no need to get worried about this.

Getting tired is most likely not caused by this. Talk to your doctors about this so that they can investigate other possible causes. For how long has this been going on? For now, stay positive, eat healthy and exercise regularly and let's see what changes set in.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

the following is about the skin on my arms and back -- I have developed over the last year dryness and many tiny pinhead sized "bumps" of no particular color all over my arms and my back -- the areas feel rough. Also, my elbows and the bone on my left wrist are extremely dry to the points of white chalky feeling. it possibly started after visits to the beach during the summer but I never expose my back much, and its also there -- any ideas what it is and how to treat?

(could it also be a reaction to the sotalol medication I am taking?) I used to have very clear skin
