Should I also administer her regular insulin. We are outside of the united States at the moment and health care in Monsterrat is spotty with no hospital but a health center. Please advise
Brief Answer:
Do an extra dose of insulin.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your situation.
When the glucose meter shows high, it means that the blood sugar is over 500 mg/dl. Of course you should seek medical help, until then do an extra dose of insulin Actrapid. I would suggest 12 UI.
Can you find a reason why the blood sugar is high ? Is she active ? Is she able to drink ?
Check the blood sugar after 1 hour and try to find a medical center. She needs intravenous liquids and continuous intravenous insulin injections, especially if she is in any kind of altered sensorium.
Hope I have been helpful.
Do not hesitate to ask if you need help again.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
