Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Submnadibular Lymph Node

Question: i have an enlarged submnadibular lymph node on left side.i was on antibiotics for two weeks and the lymph node swelling and pain has come down a little and is not shrinking further.I has an ultraosund of the neck which shows small cystic submandibular lymph node ~ 7mm and rest nil significant.Then i had CT scan of the neck which shows few submandible bilatearal lymph nodes in normal limits and rest nil significant.My doctor says it is an infected node and no FNAC is required,

Hi XXXX! Good afternoon. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

I went through your history and also the attached CT scan report. I would give more importance to the CT report than the ultrasound report at the present situation. The points which go in favour of the infective cause of lymphadenitis is that it subsided with antibiotics. The remaining swelling would also most possibly subside with time. If I were your doctor, I would also avoid going for an FNAC of a gradually reducing lymph node and rather keep it under observation without disturbing it invasive maneuvers. However, as a base line investigation, I would advise you for a thyroid function test in addition to routine blood tests like a CBC, ESR and a blood sugar test. In case the pain/swelling in your lymph node increases, then I would go for an FNAC of the same.
