
Suggest Treatment For Epigastric Pain While On Zantac And Motrin

Question: I HAVE EPIGASTRIC PAIN 4/10 THAT WAXES AND WANES. ZANTAC 150 MG HAS BEEN MY GO TO WHENEVER BUT AM LOOKING AT NEXIUM-AS IT HAS AN 87% SUCCESS RATE. I CAN TIE THIS RECENT PROBLEM TO GETTING AN RX FOR 800 MG MOTRIN.. LOOKS AS THOUGH I USE NSAIDS A LITTLE TOO MUCH AT 62YRS/ IS THERE A REMOTE CHANCE IT MIGHT BE H-PYLORI?I FORGOT I DID SEE THE PA AT LOCAL URGENT CARE SOME MONTHS BACK. WAS TO USE THE LAB FOR STOOL SAMPLE AND DROPPED THE BALL-SO TO SPEAK, WHEN I GOT BETTER.

Since you use NSAIDS frequently, that is probably the cause.
I am against use of NSAIDS as a routine, as besides gastric ulcers, I have seen three cases of renal failure due to their regular use. And Motrin 400 would be safer if at all than 800.
Regarding H Pylori, I see no harm in getting a breath test done to look for it as treatment may help if it is positive. But for now take Nexium for 6-8 weeks and try to avoid NSAIDS and all pain killers as far as possible. Regards
