Suggest Treatment For Esophageal Spasms And Heartburn
I do have a hiatal hernia, have had roux-n-Y gastric by-pass surgery (in 2001), have frequent, painful esophageal spasms and heartburn. The meds I am prescribed are Ability oral, Ativan oral, Concerta, Trileptal, Cymbalta, and Celebrex (which doesn't even take the edge off of what was knee pain. I had knee replacement surgery in 2014 and the other knee in 2016. I was taking omeprazole but stopped several weeks ago because I heard of connections with Alzheimer's. I do eat spicy foods, and have 1-2 grapefruit vodka martinis per evening. I take glucosamine/chondroitin and Aleve for arthritis and it seems to help. SO, I do have an idea of what I should do to eliminate the GERD pain/symptoms, including losing weight. Would you please help me with realistic decisions for eating and stopping the more than occasional acid coming all the way up my throat (often in the middle of the night as I am sleeping). Thank you. Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear,
Firstly thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Have gone through all your details and i appreciate your concern.
Drastic lifestyle modification is the key factor for controlling symptoms of GERD.
Eat lots of yogurt in the diet.
Drink one glass of cold milk daily before going to bed. Cold milk has alkaline properties and neutralizes the acid.
Avoid all citrus fruits. Citrus fruits contain citric acid hence they should be avoided.
Take one cup of banana daily.
Don't eat spicy food. If possible take cooked food in lunch and Vegans(Raw) diet in evening for few weeks.
Take lots of vegetables.
Avoid all other dairy products.
Take a good quality probiotic daily.
Eat foods rich in probiotics.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.
Follow this for few weeks. These things will take time but will definitely help.
Hope I answered your query.
Follow ups are most welcome.
