Suggest Treatment For Esophageal Spasms

Question: Hi, I have been having esophageal spasms once or twice a week,and today's was the worst pain so far,it feels like it's lasted all day. I have gerd, for which I am taking the maximum dose of lansoprazol twice daily, as prescribed. I saw my gp a month ago with a tight chest and she tested my lung capacity which was a bit low and I was put on a preventative inhaler, which seemed to help, but on using the treatment inhaler, it did'nt help at all. Cold water sipped seemed to help.I have a hiatus hernia, but I find swallowing becoming increasingly difficult,I feel as if there is something stopping food and drink from reaching my stomach. Can you give advice on this? XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

1. An analgesic anti-spasmodic medication (such as Meftal Spas) and Mucaine gel will help settle your esophageal spasms in the short term.

2. You should seek medical attention. Injectable medication for acid reflux and injectable anti-spasmodics are available for severe spasms.

3. A gastroendoscopy will help assess the hiatus hernia, biopsy to rule out Barrett's Esophagus (which may be the cause for the difficulty in swallowing) and h.pylori infection (Rapid Urease Test).

4. Upload these test results and images for further treatment advice.
