Suggest Treatment For Eustachian Tube Dysfunction

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Dec 2014
Question: I have a reracted ear drum. I have had tubes put in 5 times in about 2 years.
They fall out within 3 and sometimes 6 months. Is there another solution or am I destined to spend every 3 months getting new tubes put in?

Brief Answer:
Eustachian tube dysfunction...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

No, you do not have to get the grommet inserted every half yearly. The basic problem lies in the Eustachian tube (the tube connecting nose and the ear). This may not be functioning properly which is the root cause of all your ear problems. Our treatment should be aimed at opening this blocked tube.

You will require the following:
1. Steroid nasal spray (such as fluticasone or momentasone).
2. Saline nasal spray to clear any secretions in the nose and the nasopharynx.
3. Steam inhalation 2-3 times a day for 3-4 minutes. This will relieve the nasal congestion if any and the congestion around the Eustachian tube.
4. Drink plenty of warm water.
5. Avoid chilled food and beverages/coffee/smoking.
6. Avoid sleeping directly under the fan or in front of the air conditioner.

With the above measures you will definitely feel better. Revert back to me if you any further queries.
