Xerosis/ dryness of skin with secondary excoriations due to scratching
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have taken note of your query and I have also reviewed the Image.
In this Image I can see linear excoriated lesions probably secondary to scratching.
I suggest a possibility of Xerosis/ severe dryness of skin leading on to itching and subsequent scratching and erosions.
The significant points in your history that i can gather are that you are hypothyroid. Hypothyroidism is a very common cause of Xerosis and skin itching.
Also the fact that skin loses its water retentive capacity with age and becomes dry and tends to itch. This is known as senile xerosis.
Together these 2 factors i.e Hypothyroidism and Senile Xerosis are the likely reasons for severe dryness and itching and consequent scratching/ exoriations.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to use an intensive moisturizer cream/ lotion, twice daily, throughout. Use it twice daily.
An OTC oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once or twice daily will provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
You may use a topical OTC antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin or 1% framycetin sulphate, specifically at scratch sites to help them heal faster.
Regards
Of course, there is nothing to worry.
